Biography:
Eddie, often referred to as Eddie the Head or Eddie the Trooper, is the skeletal mascot of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He is a ubiquitous figure, appearing on all of the band's album covers and singles, as well as in their live shows and merchandise.
Eddie made his first appearance on Iron Maiden's debut single, "Running Free," released in 1980. The artwork depicted a shadowy figure lurking in an alleyway, instantly establishing his menacing presence.
Over the years, Eddie's appearance has evolved significantly, reflecting the themes and concepts of each album. He has been depicted as a cyborg, a pharaoh, a lobotomized patient, and even a World War I soldier, most famously in "The Trooper" artwork. Eddie remains an instantly recognizable symbol of Iron Maiden and heavy metal culture worldwide.
